lift kit

i was looking at the rough country kit, it is considerably cheaper than others. so i ws wondering, what are its cons?

is it reliable, does it have all things neccessary for a lift?

i have an 89 ext cab, the ride is so stiff right now, i feel every bump on the road and it has almost no flex at all. why is this? shock absorbers or springs?

also how would a 4in lift look with 31x10.5 tires? the tires i have are new and wouldnt want to just get another set so soon. would feel like money wasted.

The Rough Country lift's are no worse than any other bracket type lift (hint: search the forums for bracket lift) and as a matter of fact they are the same lift as a Superlift but with different coatings on the parts.

It is reliable if you are doing mostly street with a little mild offroading. Any more than that and you'll risk breaking or bending something. It is an all -inclusive lift in a box but they cut a few corners by giving you lift blocks instead of lift springs for the back, and brake line drop brackets instead of braided extended lines. Overall though it's a good kit for a street queen.

If your ride is stiff the PO probably cranked up your torsion bars to get a little lift in the front. You can let them down and get some of your ride back, but if you have oversized tires on your truck they might start rubbing.

31's are too small IMO for a 4" lift. If you let the tbars out an inch or so you can probably get away with it but you'll be raked a little. I'd run at least 32x11.50 with a 4" lift, and better yet 33x12.50. Too much lift with too little tire looks funny to me.

Btw, you'll probably get flamed for this thread. All of this info is on the forums if you search for it. I was just in a good mood this morning.

Rough Country is indeed Superlift with a different color paint.... I agree with everything Overdrive stated. As for tire size, what year truck do you have?

89 ext cab, i jus got a set of bfg a/t's not to long ago, would hate to buy another set and leave the a/t lyin around. they are brand new and i know i couldnt sell them for close to wat i paid. however, i do think it looks funny when a lifted trck has small tires and i wouldnt want my truck lookin that way

as for the torsion bars, i dont think its been messed with. my dad got it from junkyard in 91 as a work truck and pretty sure he never raised it.
