Learning the 22RE engine
I have had a 1988 4X4 TRUCK for 15 years and never really have known what that stuff under the hood is. I quit working on my own cars 15 years ago..Now I want to replace hoses ,work on cleaning, Maintaining and such...Replaced the Rear main seal, new clutch last month and front seal 20 K miles ago.I hope to use Toyota parts for formed hoses and gates for the other...
Are there people that specialize in chrome trim around the windshield?
It now has 150 K,,,,Where do I go to get a knowledge of what all those things on the engine do? What needs to be checked and maintained?
Maybe a link to UTUBE ? I use to know everything about small block Chevys, but they all had Carbs ,,,, Whole new world....... Thanks Charlie

A good place to start is a Hayne's or Chilton manual. They'll cover all the scheduled/regular maintenance and for bigger work at least get you to the point where you know what questions to ask. Then google can find you the forum thread or youtube video you need for a specific work you're doing.

Except for the radiator hoses and the "U" shaped hose I have to get mine from a Toyota parts dealer. As far as the metal trim most likely need to get that at a boneyard. As far as learning the 22re, I try to put some information in my build threads and have links on the first page that I try to show how to do things.
I use Gates Rubber hose PN# 20801, around $10. It comes is a "S" shaped form, but when you cut the lower part off, it looks identical to the orginal and has the larger opening coming off of the water pump and the smaller end for the horseshoe pipe.
Gates PN#20801, just cut off where my finger is at. Alot cheaper then the dealer.
Here it is cut to length and on. I need to get some new hose clamps to finish the job.

Thanks
I got the upper and lower done yesterday..Also the weird one from the thermostat housing ...that wraps around and ends up at the front of air box,....It was rotten...I got an 90 degree brass adapter to go from 3/8 hose to 1/2" hose for the PVC fitting.. I'm afraid every time I go to Toyota...Big bucks and wait 2 weeks......I used gates on the heater hoses as theirs was almost a perfect fit, bends just needed 3 " cut off..
Can EPDM tubing be used for PCV?....Ad says it is pure rubber or something.... Any trick for Vacuum tubing for the brake booster? Does it need to be special?.... Charlie

If your serious about your rig and doing work yourself then save your money on Hanyes or any other manual besides the factory service manual for your rig. You can find one on eBay. Yes they cost more but you get what you pay for. If money is tight tight then you should be able to find links to download the manual or what parts you need online or on this site.
