I found a leak today under my truck and at first i thought it was the driveshaft. But upon looking at it again it looks like its coming from the tranny but im not sure. It looks like the line is rotted out. If anyone knows what this is and if its easy to fix please let me know. I have attached a bunch of pics, thanks

that is the tranny cooling line. there is two of them and you will probably have to get them both new at a dealer. or you could hit a bone yard and find onne.

is it a hard/a big job to replace? And tranny fluid would be leaking am i right?

more than likely, you might want to drain the pan first. there will still be some drainage from the lines as you remove them so make sure you have something to soak up the fluid.

seeing as you are replacing a/t cooling lines, you might consider adding a trans cooler while you are at it.

can this cause any serious damage as i heard of there being a chance of it mixing with the coolant? It smells like A/T fluid though so if i top it off for a while do you think it will be ok?

also, i just want this tranny to last me a couple months until i can swap it for a 5spd so no tranny cooler

It will be fine. Coolant invasion is pretty rare.

What's failed is the o-ring which lives under that fitting.

--- actually, is that dirt or rust on that line?

Its the transmission fluid return line. Not a fun place to work. The corrosion is going to complicate the job UNLESS you get new lines and then cut the near the transmission case and the unscrew the whole right angle piece. You got to be very careful because the case is aluminum and will easily strip and break if you get rough. I highly recommend having a shop replace the lines since you appear to be a novice mechanic. Furthermore, those lines are clamped near the starter and another tough place to work. The lines, obviously, are steel. Need to replace them NOW before the small leak becomes a disaster.

yeah the leak is getting pretty quick so il probably just end up bringing it to a shop. I'm just going to replace the entire line as i think it would be easier that way. Is there any chance of the lines rupturing while im driving? Thats what im most worried about
