Hey just wondering if any here have ever had a problem with a leaky cam seal after replacing it...I just put new crank and cam seals in and the right side cam seal is leaking at the same place it was before...I made sure it was lubed and that I did not roll the edge when installing....It seems to be leaking around the inner (shaft) side of the seal...I need to get this truck back together asap....I did notice that the right side seal came out a whole lot easier than the left one....maybe this helps...

Did you put any RTV or FIPG in place? Take a peek at the FSM.

Yes, I was going by the FSM...And it does not mention using RTV????

You're supposed to put 4 dabs of RTV or FIPG around the tight corners of the gasket. It is usually where it leaks. I guess the gasket just cannot conform to that curve well...

The leak is NOT on the shaft side...It is on the outer side of the seal.....

Maybe you are not seating the seals in far enough. They go in all the way and seat nicely if you place them before the little top covers are tightened down. The covers are put on after you slide the seals in. I didn't use any sealant on the cam seals, as I recall, and I have no leaks. I think you are to use a bit of grease on the inside where it goes around the camshaft.

This is a 3.0 right? & the "right side" meaning drivers side.
the leak might be coming from that front cam bearing cap, i believe the distributor is mounted to this cap also.
theres a seal packing underneath the cap, i.e. high temp RTV black silicone or toyota # 08826-0080 sealant.

engine oil runs up thru this cap to lube the cam journal. if this seal packing fails, the oil pressure will piss out oil in this area around the seal.

If you can change out the t-belt and seals, you can do this.

Luckily for us, the intake plenium is over the passenger side valve cover, so you dont have to deal with this. remove the valve cover and distributor to get to the cap. you'll see four 10mm bearing cap bolts. remove bolts then the bearing cap.
clean both surfaces including any old sealant in the packing groove in the cap itself. apply new sealant (mentioned above) into the packing groove.
Reinstall everything back in reverse order.

KONASTAR, The leaky cam seal is on the pass...side left,if facing the front of the engine...the fsm identfies left and right while in the truck...

But I do have oil coming from around the outer part of the seal...I have pulled the plenium(upper intake), and I am gonna pull the vlv cover tomorrow...I think I have a problem with the bearing cap on that side...could this be the case....I see two mating services when the seal is out...Is this the bearing cap? This seal fits loose, the other side was not leaking and was tight...

You MUST use FIPG or a reasonably tenacious alternative....follow the FSM instructions for a leak-free assembly....

So as not to dupe a post, I'll post my question here. I'm chasing an oil leak which SEEMS to be coming from the top down. already did VC gasket with FIPG in the corners, no problems there. Also did rear camshaft housing PLUGS and they are good as well. Degrease and degrease and definitely see oil running from top of bellhousing down (mainly on driver side) to where it drips off bottom.

ALSO, see dripping from right front corner of engine (that's the corner where the power steering is). Oil dripping both places.

Question: can the front cam seals leaking allow the oil to end up on the ground in two different places? That is, will the left front cam seal oil travel down to the back of the block and the right front cam seal oil travel straight down?

If it was only the driver side, I'd be more suspicious of the distributor leak. But since it is both sides I'm thinking symmetry - something that is on both sides and likely to be same age, etc.
