I have a 92 toyota p/u Xtra-cab (V6 3VZ-E) manual 5spd 4WD.
I have an Engine oil leak. The leak appears to be all over the bottom side of the front differential, transmission, driveshaft, sway bars.. pretty much the rear of the motor near the bell housing.. The bell housing, is oily as well.

I just did a gasket change on both valve covers..
I replaced the main seal in the front diff.
but neither of these things eliminated the ENGINE oil leak...
I drip about 2 to 3 drops every 10 minutes.

I'll be honest, It looks like it's the oil pan gasket where it meets the bell housing, but that doesn't explain why I have engine oil on the side of the bell housing as well.
unless the drive shaft is spewing the oil onto the BHing..

Any thoughts, past experiences? suggestions?

OIL PAN!! AKA WORST LEAK EVER!

Jk, man.. Drop your front differential/CVs, drop the oil pan, replace sealant, and boom! That "should" cover it. If there's other leaking, it may be your rear main seal, which commonly goes bad, but your oil pan seal is definitely shot if it's leaking front and back.

I'd suggest oil pan seal, rear main if you can manage, and the front o-ring of the oil pump. That should take care of ALL bottom leaks.

How does your crank look, btw?

Also, your driveshaft will most definitely spray that oil everywhere from the oil pan.

That's a good question.. I don't know about my crank.. what should I be looking for? (where more likely)

That will have all the pictures and information you could ever need.

2. The crankshaft is the behind the biggest pulley on the bottom of the engine. Look at the front of the oil pan, then a few inches above that is the biggest pulley. If the oil is leaking from that, as well, it could also be your crank seal, or as mentioned before, the o-ring to the oil pump. I believe they are sold together if you buy at autozone or advanced auto.

It will require pulling that skid plate off.

Front main seal, You can have that changed when you get the timing belt replaced.


Rear main seal, Have it replaced when you get the clutch service, Good time to get the pilot bearing done as well if your not sure how many miles on it.


Oil pan gasket get new and some Toyota grey (monkeysnott) sealent and as they say above about dropping the diff and pan.

Clutch is new, and I just did the timing belt sooo. yeah..

Hahaha well.. Just do the oil pan if you want.. It should cover most of the leakage. You can always go back and do something else if it turns out to be the oil pan AND rear main.

I don't know about the 3vz but the 22re is impossible to get the oil pan out with the diff installed (unless you have a 4" suspension lift).
The side shaft seals on the front diff will throw gear oil everywhere if the seals let go.
The oil pan gasket is a fun job. Drop the diff (sounds much easier than it is) and then drop the pan. Lots of bolts and lots of RTV gasket goop. It's fun to take off, get a gasket scraper or a putty knife to help separate the oil pan from the block.

I'm pretty sure i read that you have to drop the diff to change the oil pan seal…

Just clean the ledge below the crank pulley very well… If the crank seal is leaking, you'll see it leak down on that ledge. Every time i've done a TB job on the 3vz or 5vz, i've always made sure to do the crank seals out of fear that i may have one go right after i do the TB…
