so after all that time and money, they gained a wapping 18 hp and 0 torque at the wheels. that looks like it was worth the 2k+ price tag

^^^x2 on that hahaha I mean really, new cam? oversized valves? ported head?
and only 18hp?

good posting but I think I'm a litle bit more of a "hardcore" when it comes to engine porn

Thats close to a 30% increase in HP. What else do you expect from a 2.4l motor pushing a couple thousand pound rig?

Still a cool article.

And the "hardcore" engine porn wouldn't be allowed on a family friendly site!

If you go through Putney's Machine website they show videos of their dyno runs with stock and a stage 2 build. Very similar numbers.

If you really want an increase, time to think of a motor swap to something bigger. But as far as building a 22re and not upgrading anything else outside the longblock, this is about maxed out. Still a fun article to peruse.

I agree - it's not a lot of power, but with the 22RE it's all about relative increases to the palry stock numbers, at least in my opinion. Slapping a header and exhause on, while they add very small numbers in power, can instantly be felt using the "butt dyno" and in long freeway hills (usnig higher gears instead of lower gears to get up hills...).

Plus, I love seeing all the cleaning/porting and nicely-buttoned up shots of the engine once done.

I suppose you could get a lot of similar numbers using ENGNBLDR cam, head, valves, witha decent header and exhaust, too
