Larger fuel capacity
Well this has been getting me for quite some time, I am starting to get fustrated with my limited range of roughly 350km (220miles for those south of the border) Were there models that came with larger tanks? Are my only options adding a fuel cell or carrying jerry cans?

there are certainley plenty of options there. replacement tanks, extra tanks, tanks that mount in your bed(for pickups), etc etc. theres been a couple of threads similar to this.

Sorry, I have a 91 4unner. I believe I have a 15gal tank, but that's only from my guesses as to the fuel light coming on a little before that.

If he has a 3.0, that's about right ... if it's an automatic, he's actually doing pretty well ...
You can do a separate fuel cell.
Supposedly, a Cherokee tank will fit underneath where the spare tire goes.

ive got a 91 runner with a spare on the back and a 11.5 gallon auxilary tank underneath. it came that way when i bought it but if i was to buy a tank now i would get the 20 gallon tank.

i think i may rig something up myself. heres the plan, i get a truck box, say a third of it is partitioned off and becomes a fuel cell. I rig it up to where i fill up in the box fuel cell and it just runs straight down into the stock cell. add another couple of gallons that way, and plenty more mileage.
possible? of course it is. probable?who knows?

no, building a toolbox gas tank is a stupid idea. they do sell them for fullsize trucks though, but you have to stop and get out to add some to the main tank.
i carry a 5gal jerry can i bought at a surplus store as backup for when im driving in the middle of nowhere

It is absolutly not a stupid idea there are companys that make them for some trucks and can be custom mad but I dont see why you couldnt make your own. be sure to have it pressure tested and seal tested but other than that it should work.

I drive her nice and easy and i'm getting 15mpg, 19 on all highway trips. Anyways, I think i'm going to find a tank that fits under the back and rig it up as a aux tank that will pump into the reg tank. Maybe set it up as dual tank, we'll see. I have a tank from a RX7 here that looks like it may fit and is 70L(18gal).

I disagree entirely. Even flogging it at every red light in town he should get no less than 14mpg. Take it easy and 18mpg is not an issue. Loose the big tires or regear, tune 'er up completely (O2 sensor), and go easy on the gas....

im tellin ya, i dont see why a tank using gravity wouldnt work. just drill a hole straight down through ur bed under the box and run a pipe down into the tank.
if only i had the spare time, parts, and welding supplies. lol.
