I just rebuilt the motor in my 88 22re from oil pan to valve cover, everything new, including a knock sensor. But now a month or so later my knock sensor engine code is up on my dash. I also have a really high idle when I pull up to a stop sign for example unless I bump the throttle pretty good then it idles down. I'm just very confused on why my idle would be doing this and secondly my knock sensor. I don't want to spend another 200 on a new knock sensor to find that the sensor itself wasn't bad. Are there other things in relation to the sensor that throw a code 52?

Did you replace the knock sensor wire at the same time?

No I did not, only the sensor. Are the sensor wires readily available?

it's the wire they go bad all the time

Dealer only item, special order. Probably less than $15-20. The sensors hardly ever go bad. Wires get killed by heat.

Ok awesome! 15 is much better than 200! I'll order that so I can do it while my injectors are being rebuilt

Check with your dealer for the correct part number on the wire. They did change right about '88.

go to the dealer with your wire, so they get the right one for sure, they always order the wrong one

Knock sensors are very pricey, at least to me lol. Gotta love a high school budget! But I will run up to my dealer and get them to order me the correct wire. It is just odd to me because the light comes on randomly and only after driving about 15-20 miles.

The knock-sensor pigtail fails all the time from age. You'd put an "old" wire in to save $10? I don't think I'd do that even if it was easy to get to, and the knock sensor wire is anything-but.
