Just need some a educated opinions on a 3.0

I bought a 91 4runner 4x4 standard trans couple months ago for $350 it was in good shape had 236,000 and I always wanted one. The problem with it was guy said it had a blown HG quit running after it ran hot one day. It just turns over does not do anything have not tested anything on it. I was in the middle of rebuilding my 22re for my pickup at the time and I figured I would get to it later so I purchased it and parked it in my driveway. So about a month later a buddy at work told me that his uncle had a 92 4runner 4x2 that he wanted to get rid of but he had some issues so i swung by one day after work talked to guy and ended up picking it up for $400 it was running but has a bad TPS, and leaks water from water pump but runs nice I figured that I would put the front end on my pickup and keep motor for whatever reason I am not sure of as of yet. Motor has 201,000 miles. My question is Would you put this motor in your vehicle not knowing history of it. I dont know if it burns oil or not. Have not checked compression. What would you check before using this motor? What would you do to it before using this motor? I would like to do a 3.4 swap but no money for that this truck will not be a daily driver and if I can get another 50,000 miles out of it I will be happy seeing as I dont put but 12,000 miles a year on my dd.

Can you drive the vehicle with the running motor? If so, drive it a little bit, and see how it is. You can find out how it runs, if it uses oil, etc. I would still do a compression check before swapping it.

If that's not possible, I would be hesitant to swap a motor that I didn't know anything about. Especially with 201,000 miles on it. With that said, check compression. If that's good, maybe pull the valve cover off. That would be easy, and you can see if there's a lot of sludge, etc. Also check the valve clearance while you're in there. If compression is good, valve clearances are good, and it doesn't look excessively dirty, it will probably run just fine.

If nothing else, it should buy you some more time to replace the HG and go through the other motor.
