Just got the truck, i have some ?'s
Truck sat for 2 years in a field, had a blown head gasket, replaced and also rebuilt the head, started right up and ran decent. But now, today i found an exhaust leak right before the muffler in the weld, makes a whistle sound some what when u step on it. also idles a little rough, motor moves back and forth but smoothes out when u give it gas. could this be due to the exhaust leak? few more questions but will start with these. the truck is the avatar picture! Thanks hope someone can help

i looked at the motor mounts and seemed fine. im headed to my uncles shop in the morning so all check again to make sure. another thing is when i am going down the roadand coming to a red light if i hit the brakes while the motor is reving it will bring it down and sound like it will die.but it doesnt and then idles fine.

yea. Thats a common issue.
I actually dealt with it. Im foggy right now.. but it has to do with TPS sensor adjustment. If I think about it, Ill remember it exactly and how to fix it.
Well its just unless your engine is way OFF balance, it shouldnt really move that much. A lot of engine movement is really bad, misaligns all kinds of stuff.. so usually i say mounts? Yea, taking it to a shop is a good idea. I wouldnt do a lot of hard driving on it till you figure it out.
It could also be a unbalanced engine a.k.a dead cylinder? I had an old sub that overheated and killed a cylinder and that engine jumped that week before I moved on. This was back before I knew how to fix stuff.
So check compression? Does it feel like all the cylinders are firing?>

hmmm
first thought is timing, did you double check belt after rotating a few times, and did you jumper the te1 e1 (i think) if you used the light?
Second thought is double check all vacuum lines are hooked up correctly on the plenum? I had to double check mine and found one was wrong.
Third thought is 02 censor responding to the leak...which really should be the first thing approached as much as you probably dont want to, fix that leak asap.
also, how did those injectors look???

it seems to have good power, so all check the mounts again to make sure cause i just glaced at them, cause at the time the priority was getn the head back on. I did a compression check after getn the motor back together and a week ago everything is good.

depending on how the head gasket blew, the coolant in the exhaust could'be fouled the catalytic converter, causing excessive backpressure and poor engine performance along the lines you describe.

i have checked the vaccum lines several times and not sure about the injectors. i am gnna fix the exhaust leak 2marow see what that does. and see if i can replace the o2 sensor. also, i set the timing the other day so i think that is good. would the back pressure if it is the catalytic converter cause little compression out the exhaust? cause if you put ur hand in front of the exhaust its got good kick to it.

i am actually in rocklin now but most of the family is in loomis, pretty much the same area. i like it out here, well used to seems all the people r making there way here. with roseville and rocklin growing loomis and towards auburn are getn worse

uncle cant look at it for a few weeks at his shop. i checked the motor mounts and they seem fine. i took this video today on a digital camera not a high quality one and the video does not justify the movement but u can still see it moving. i dont think this is normal but i could be wrong,

That vibration isn't a typical 'something is broke' vibration... looks more like engine rpm's fluctuating from a vacuum leak or some other cause. partially obstructed exhaust can cause an effect like that- note I'm not saying fully clogged as that would cause the engine to die. Valves do sound a bit loud there too, and if they're out, it could cause a problem with the idle.
Now... we can't rule out burned valve(s) or something either so I'd suggest getting the exhaust repaired first, then adjusting the valves and see how it goes. If it gets no better, than a compression test should be done.
