Just finished painting my rims Check em out!!

Hey guys so i decided that i wanted to change up the appearance of my truck a little but, and decided to paint my rims. Here is a little bit of pictures if the process. But don't mistake this for a "how to guide". Also tell me what y'all think

Here they are

This is what i started off with. You cant really see it in the picture but the aluminum was already starting to peel off

This is after all of the sanding and cleaning of the rim and after i taped off the rivets as part of my design idea

This is after all the painting and after i removed the tape. The wheel was barely drying. But i liked the way it turned out

Your tape lines look terrible.

I like the rims. I have a set just like that....on my LEGO truck

They do look good black, but paint the "beadlock" section like dark gray or black.

Haha! That was just the preliminary tape, of course I went over it with a blade and made everything nice and straight

As for painting the beadlockss black. First I want to see how they look for a while like that, if not I can always go back and change them

I think Rusty and I were both talking about how they look after the painting was done.
The edges look pretty jagged on the white part.

Did you go back after the pic and fix that?
I think if you trimmed that up they would look good - another idea would be to get some of the liquid masking tape, hit each rivet head then paint it black again.
That way just the rivents would be white or whatever color you wanted - that my look better than the white stripe, not sure.

Just my $.02 as always though,

Fink

As of now i havent gone back to respray them because the label on the can said that there is only a 1 hour window to do all the coats or else you would have to wait 7 days to avoid wrinkling the paint or something like that. So i have to wait a few more days until i can re spray them.

Hmm liquid masking tape??

Yup, Liquid Masking Tape.
Just be sure to follow the directions exactly or else it will bleed.

Wal-Mart has some for about $5.

Nice, im going to look into that when i go back to touch them up. I imagine its so much easier and hassle free than taping everything?

It's SO much easier.
You also get MUCH cleaner lines, especially like in your case when you're not doing just a straight edge.
It will also stick to just about anything.

Most of the kinds I've used will change colors when it's ready to be painted, sounds kind of silly but it's definitely better than trying to time it.

One thing I learned is with the cheaper stuff or just with certain kinds of paints you may want to take a razor blade to edge of it before pulling it off.
Sometimes depending on the prep and type of paint it will flake a little bit at the edge of while you're pulling it off.

Still 100x easier than normal tape.

I'm confused, you say your aluminum was peeling off?
If they're aluminum rims then why would the aluminum peel off? lol

What did you use spray paint? My brother sprayed his rims glossy black, didn't think it would work but when he drove it, looks real to me. Although the with spray paint it will peal off after sometime, I guess you can just spray it again. Looks nice though, I might try it.

uuhhh
Dupont/ppg/some brand silver rim paint
I've had the paint on two years, and the only place it's come off was where there was still dirt on the rim that didnt come off. Otherwise, the stuff is pretty durable.
We just painted up the rim with the old tires on and even got some of the tires xD
