Jumpy timing California smog question
I am going to take my '92 3.0 4Runner in for a smog check tomorrow. I adjusted the timing, but it was a little jumpy. I searched and it seems to be kind of common on these engines. Timing is suppose to be set at 10* and it can fail the visual part of the smog test for being more than 3* off. It is jumping about 5* in each direction.
I am wondering is if anyone has ever failed the visual for having a jumping timing problem. Any smog techs on here that have failed people for that? I do not want to spend $150 on a new distributor, but I would rather only pay to take the $80 test once.
