Jumpy temp guage... beats me.

92 3.0 stick


The temp guage works fine if the truck isnt moving, or im not pushing the throttle...


If I'm giving it gas, the guage just stops working all together... If I'm coasting, its fine until i hit even the tiniest bump.



Cant figure it out to save my life...


Help.

ummmm, I'll be the first to suggest air pocket in the coolant system; any other takers?

Hmmmm.... radio and everything stays on fine if you give it throttle. If not, could be regulator going/out cause overvoltage problem.

If all that is fine....lose wire/ground. I would guess in engine compartment since torquing motor causes it to go out.

you'd be surprised; I've seen strange things cause wierd gauge readings; like old rad outlet hoses that colapse with higher RPMs


but the torque theory sounds very possible too; check the wire running to the temp sensor and make sure it's in good shape, and that the wire itself is secured good on the sensor

It's the smallest sensor on the coolant block - that aluminum appendage on top of the motor in the back - just in front of the firewall and half under the plenum. On the older motors, the sender's position on the coolant block is in the front left; on the late models, it's just to the left of the largest attached hose.

BTW if you need to order one, it's called the water (or coolant) temperature sender as opposed to the ECT - (engine coolant temperature sensor).

Fortunately all the sensors on that coolant block look different; unfortunately the plenum is partly in the way.

My vote goes to the faulty sensor. Probably a connection.

I tried bleeders air pocket theory... burped the system.


same problem.... sooooooooo i guess its that sensor or a bad ground.

Alright, so this thing is on the drivers side of the block in front of the fire wall and the intake assembly kind of blocks the view of it?

Not seeing it... i'll go look again i guess

No, the coolant block is in the center of the motor, on top, in the back. It has like 5 sensors or so and a couple hose attachments. The sender's location on that little coolant block is just to the left (looking forward) of the largest hose.
