It's always the last place you look, random miss.
Doing some final things on the 89 4runner before the holidays, yes I know I was trying to sell it but after the job went belly up (only for a little while I hope) I can't afford to sell it and make truck payments, and wanted to change out the plugs since these have are the NGK's that I've been told were not the right ones to use. Picked up some Denso W16EXR-U's, gap them and go to put them in. Well for a while I've had a random miss and I did check and recheck the plugs/wires/cap/rotor to make sure all was in order, last thing was to change the plugs out. So I go to pull the rear most plug wire off and it the part that clips onto the spark plug pulls out of the boot! Upon closer inspection the wire shielding up inside the boot (the part that's clamped with the clippy part that goes on the plug) has some burn marks on it. Looks like it was doing something strange up inside the boot that I never would have found if it hadn't pulled apart. When I go and pull that spark plug out its all blackened and really icky looking like it's been running rich in that cylinder. The other three are fine.
I got the wire back on there and although the random miss is still there I can now hear a *snap!* inside that wire like it's arcing or shorting out. Replacing the wires next week when an auto parts place up here is open. I'm guessing some Toyota factory replacements might be the best bet?
Here's to hoping I found the last problem on the little runner.

Where will you be getting the plug wires? What brand? My local parts stores only carry accel & bosh, neither of which are recommended.(currently running bosh) Ive read to use either denso or ngk but i cant find either at the stores. Also what about the distributor cap & rotor?

I was going to get an 8mm wireset from autozone, but they wanted too much for them. Then I saw the accel 8mm set for a v8 sitting on the shelf for like 15 - 20 bucks so I got that. Plus I have spares in case I need one.

Glad you stayed away from the autozone wires. Those are crap.
