Took my truck out for some wheeling yesterday. Got stuck and pushed it pretty hard for maybe a couple of minutes. On the way home it started knocking. This morning it was bad. I was able to tow it to my parents shop and now I'm going to see what the techs say.

What do you think is the worst and best case scenario? Threw a rod or something?

My co worker is selling a 22r motor for 300 bucks. Would I be able to hook the EFI up and make it work? With out really knowing what I was doing, I was able to do the timing chain on it a couple months ago under one of the techs supervision and him just telling me what to do. I thinking I might be able to rebuild the motor and put it in....I hope?

Rod knock? I don't think you threw a rod as that usually destroys an engine since the rod tends to screw things up when it comes loose. If it's just some rod knock you might be able to pull it and rebuild it. I've never done it so I can't really give any advice but I'm sure others on here will be able to help.

To check if it's a rod I've heard (on here actually) to pull the plug wires one at a time and see if it goes away.

I'd bet rod knock. If you use a stethescope you can narrow down where in the block its coming from, upper is usually rod. Could be piston slap but doubt it, I did the same thing a couple years back in a similar situation.

The biggest concern if a TD older block being EFI is the knock sensor boss, read this looking for a way to convert a 20R head to my SD newer block. If you rebuild or go short or long block use Toyota headgasket. When I did my first short block I was maybe as expereinced as you but with a timing chain under your belt you are a bit more knowledgable than I was. If you don't have one download the FSM. Take your time and do it right. You'll learn a good bit and have a great sense of pride about your truck.

x2 on a rod knock. Look at your crankshaft really close, if it's not too bad a good machinist can fix it, but you may need a new one.
