Interior rear view mirror wiring
Hey there i am replacing my regular rear view with this one i picked up at the scrap yard today. anybody know how this thing is wired? it grounds to itself as demonstrated. the center switch is labeled "door" but im not sure how exactly that other wire is used. might be obvious but im tired from studying all day

I imagine that the center switch takes the place of the switch on your dome light (which is probably also labeled "door"). Unless you really hate reaching back over your shoulder to turn on the dome light, you can probably ignore that switch.
The other two switches probably turn on map lights. Are there lights on the bottom of the mirror? Those probably just need a hot wire to work.

I tried doing this on one of my trucks a while ago. Found out the metal area where the mirror bolts to the roof isn't the same. The lighted mirror has two recessed areas for the bulbs that need to fit into holes in the headliner. Might have to cut these holes into the roof support so the lighted mirror can bolt up.

Had some time today between school and side jobs to clue this up
My truck already had the recesses, but no wiring, so i spliced into the dome power and door ground at the A pillar

Instead of making room in the headliner to fit my junk yard mirror I fashioned a pieve of wood to take up the space....I just used the plug from old mirror/light.

I need to replace the mirror in my 86 pickup. I touched the plastic light cover, it broke in to a bunch of pieces. The mirror doesn't want to adjust, I think if I try to adjust it the whole thing is going to break. So this newer style mirror looks like it is made much better than my old style, can you tell me what years of Toyotas have the style that I can mount in my truck?
