Installed a new flywheel and clutch

After a long weekend at work we had yesterday off. I took the opportunity to put my new clutch in. It was a good thing I got it in since I will barely have the recommended 400-500 miles on it before i hit the trail for Memorial Day.

The truck used to belong to my bro-in-law. Rumor has it he was hard on clutches, guess he would wheel in 4hi. So I was already thinking of replacing it, then last time I went wheeling I was getting some slippage. I also have a friend who had a centerforce heavy flywheel lying around, so I acquired it.

I had a centerforce Dual Friction in my 95 and loved it, so there was no question I was going with it again.

When I got the tranny out I noticed my in-laws had put a centerforce in, I am guessing a stage I. It was fairly worn, no issues on the street, but as I said with 35's I got some slippage on the trail. So out it came, replaced the flywheel and put the DF on. I also did a seafoam and throttle body cleaner treatment, as well as change the fuel filter.

First Impressions: I am not sure if its the seafoam or the heavy flywheel, but it runs and accelerates much smoother at 1000-2000 RPM. It is much easier to get moving, much less right foot and smoother. Overall, 25 miles worth, I really like it. I am not sure how it will affect my 75mph driving, but its rare so I am not worried. The pedal is almost lighter than the gas pedal, it feels really weird. Not sure why, both pressure plates are centerforce. But the throw-out bearing I removed looked cheap and much different than the OEM one I put it. The old one also rattled at idle.

I was finally able to get that friggin fill plug on the tranny out, took a pair of 10" vise grips and a 2' cheater bar. Who knows how old the fluid was, at least 3 years. But now the tranny is full of AMSOIL :-)

I also removed that pesky dust shield off of the xcase front shaft. As far as I could tell the only thing it was good for was keeping me from lubing the CV joint.

That was my first mod. I have had the heavier flywheel and df clutch in for over a year and I LOVE it! Glad you feel the same. Kick ass.

I really liked it driving around town today, I did notice my rig is slower to stop when I leave it in gear, but I did climb my one hill on the way home today and I only lost 250rpm where as I usually loose 500

yea when i rebuilt mine i used my turbo flywheel and clutch ,it was heavier than the N/A 22re flywheel.
