IFS ring and pinion install into 2wd???
not really sure where this thread should go but heres the deal. i swapped a 7mgte into my 1990 2wd pickup. im running the supra transmission also with 30 inch tires. the gearing is horrible so i got a front diff with 4.10 out of a square body 5spd. dont know the exact year. should be much better than the 3.58. i pulled the carrier and pinion out of the front diff. then pulled the third member out of my truck. i compared the two and they don't look the same. on the front diff the axles are a larger diameter then where it splines to the spider gears its the smaller size same as the 2wd axle. where the 2wd carrier its the same diameter throughout. then with the pinion the length of splines is slightly different. everything ive read says the IFS front ring and pinion are the same as the 2wd. some are saying the carriers are too. im thinkin it looks like i need to use the 2wd carrier with the 4.10 ring. and then as far as the spins im guessing that isn't an issue. i would like to know for sure though so if anybody can set me straight that would be great!
i also have a 8" from a 4spd 2wd that i want to put a locker and different gears in. it has some crazy tall gears like 3:1. hoping that isn't a problem but from what ive read it seems the 4wd rear 3rd is a direct swap. its just i got the 4.10 for free and would like to try them out and see if i want go lower with the 8"

Can you figure out exactly what size those 8'' gears are from that 2wd truck? Never heard of suck a tall 8''. Us guys with the diesels in our trucks can only find as low as 3.73s for both 8'' and 7.5''. Would be nice to have some taller ones. This gives up hope. And I have always heard that a front 7.5 can go into a rear 7.5 as well.

they're just a hair over 3:1. i guess its pretty rare. not to many 4 spd 2wd trucks around here thats for sure. the one i scored had been sitting in this guys yard for YEARS!!! check it out. i was gonna throw those gears away lol. lmk if your interested in them. i also have the 3.58 from my truck. as far as my question im just gonna try to install them in the 2wd carrier and third. im sure with all these people saying they are interchangeable it will work.
