Hey guys im on my fourth motor, and i have changed everything except my intake on my 22re. My question is what the Idle Mixture and the Air Mixture screws are stock from the factory? I have changed mine to compensate for all sorts of things over the last couple years. But i have a bullet proof motor and should have alot more power than it does? Any ideas? Thanks

The one on the throttle body adjusts the idle speed, hence is called the Idle Speed Adjusting Screw.

The Idle Speed Adjusting Screw isn't set at any particular point from the factory. Just so as to set the warm(hot) idle speed correctly. The position of the screw could vary slightly from engine to engine once that's been achieved on each. And it could also vary with the age/condition or "tuning" of the engine. That's why it's left adjustable from the factory(not sealed/capped off).


The one on the VAFM adjusts the A/F ratio(mixture) at idle speed. Therefore it's refered to as the Idle Mixture Adjusting Screw. Given that the engine's air intake and/or fuelling capacities remain unchanged, the A/F ratio(mixture) at idle speed should remain mostly unchanged(or without need of any adjustment) regardless of the age/condition or "tuning" of the engine. So unless you've made modifications that would allow for more(or less) air and/or fuel to enter the engine, there's no real need for any adjustment of it. That's why it is sealed/capped off from the factory. "There are no provisions or specifications for field adjustment".



On the lack of power issue:

It's a four banger, and a particularly gutless and failure prone one at that IMO(22R-E hater here). Swap it out for an engine that's more suitable for use in these vehicles. Namely a 3VZ-E or 5VZ-FE(or atleast a 3RZ-FE, if you must have a 4 cyl.).

Thanks a million Mud! I have moved the Air mixture by pass screw and prolly shouldnt have.. Ima put a new o ring on it and do a total tune up and set it to what the casting says. I will let you know how it went after wards. I appreciate it!
