Idle high in park, normal in drive.

Just advanced my timing 2 degrees over factory settings and she runs a lot stronger now, which is nice. But now she idles at about, or sometimes a bit over, 1.5 rpms. When its in drive or reverse it idles at or slightly below 1 rpm. This causes some hard shifts when switching between these gears and I don't want it doing that since I just had the tranny rebuilt a few months ago. Any advice would be great, please and thank you!

It's always going to be lower in gear.
Did you try putting the timing back to see what happens?
How about if you disconnect the throttle cable.
You're right, it is hard on the drive train.

Also, what the heck are you working on?

My apologies. The 3.0. I haven't tried putting the timing back or the throttle. I have the idle screw all the way in though.

When it's warm and in park the idle sits around 1100-1200. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. The hard shifting still worries me and the first gear started acting funny yesterday. Occasionally slips when I give it gas. Very jarring.

Spec is 850rpm. There are several limit screws on the throttle valve (to the throttle cable, dashpot, throttle opener ...). If any one of those is in too far it will limit how far the throttle can close. Leading to too-high idle.

Tried manually closing the throttle all the way. Brought the idle down to exactly where it should be. I've tried all the screws you mentioned. Nothing helped. Its just barely open too much.
