Idle around 500 RPM even after adjusting up
Hello all,
I am new to the forums here. I tried searching and found a lot of idle problems, but not exactly like mine. I read through several pages of answers and nothing seemed similar.
I have a 95 4runner with 3.0. When it is cold it idles around 1100 RPMs, and when it warms up it drops down to about 500 RPMs and makes a knocking noise. I have the Haynes manual and it basically says you can't adjust the idle because the computer will just change it to what it wants to. I still tried to adjust the screw and it does get the RPMs to go up, but hten it seems like it just goes back down after a few presses of the gas pedal, it's back to 500 RPMs. I have tried running some fuel system cleaner but not sure what else to check at this point.
Any help would be aprreciated.
Thanks.

Same thing is happening to me. I think it might be a vac leak somewhere. Maybe on my intake tube.
My truck idles around 800 (when engine is hot) when its cooler then 65 out but when its any hotter then that, she idles at like 550.

You can adjust the idle however you have to jumper together two of the terminals in the terminal block.
It will idle higher when cold, it's suppose to.
A knocking sound, well that's not good.

Mine is doing something similar. Mine idles at 900 with the tps plugged in, and with the TPS unplugged it idles at 1100. So Im guessing my TPS is bad.
Unplug your TPS and see if it changes
