I know some on here have taped the port to cure the idle surge problem. Has anyone permanently blocked that port if they didn't resolve their idle surge? If so what effects could it cause down the road? And does changing seasons affect it; hot- cold etc.

I don't have surge issues, but have a read thru http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h60.pdf

"Depending on system type and application, the IAC system may perform a combination of the following control functions; initial set-up, engine startup, warm-up control, feedback idle control, engine speed estimate control, electric load idle-up, learned idle speed control, and A/T idle-up control."

It goes on abit further and mentions

"Effects of IAC Operation on Emissions & Driveability
...
If idle speed is too low, the engine may stall or idle very rough. If idle speed is too high, harsh A/T gear engagement may result"

I think it's the non ecm type, refered to as a "wax air valve", used for these models? ( I remeber reading something about the wax... )
