I like to use only the top o' the line parts in my truck. I usually go off the auto parts store recommendations but, this time I thought I would ask all of the yotatecher's out there considering only yota guys know what's absolutely best for a yota. I have been told to stay away from platinum plugs, that they don't run very well with most yota's. I was given the advice to try EKG V-Power plugs. I would like to get this done before the end of the weekend.
I am willing to spend the $ to get the cream of the crop.
What are your recommendations?
Which plugs should I absolutely avoid?
Which one's will work the best in my '91 3.0?

Your Toyota dealer stocks Denso in a toyota box. They are only a couple bucks each. They work for me.

get then strait from Toyota, whatever was made for your truck is the best for it, probably a Denso.

I run only NGK's, but I also use platinum because they last longer with my MSD system. Either NGK or Denso is the best choice for our Hilux's. Stay far away from Autolite & Champion.

In 50 years I've never had a bad plug.. in many vehicles over that whole time. What I mean by a "bad plug", is one that goes bad, while the others from the same set are ok. That includes champion, NGK, bosch and probably autolite.

But I've been using NGK for the last 15 years... mostly because of price and availability.

The biggest improvement to "plugs" was when we got rid of lead in gasoline.

I used to change plugs every 10k miles... now they last for the lifetime of the vehicle... or at least as long as I've kept them. Lead was extremely corrosive.

I currently use NGK. Last installed them around 4/5 years ago.
Have any of you ever had any problems with the platinum?
My Yota-guru buddy advised me to stay away from platinum plugs. He said they always caused pinging in his 4runner.
What about temp wise....hot/cold?

my recommendation is Denso Platinum. if it is good for the TF1 car it's good enough for a 3.0L V6. i use stock denso replacments. i used the Denso Platinum in my 03' Tundra and the performance was very nice when compared to previous dyno tests. i dont have the results but it was much improved.

Stick to dealer stock NGK/Denso. Personally I've only ever used them myself and FWIW it's all my mech. will ever put in any toys he works on.

Thanks! I'm doing some HW on NGK and Denso right now. Went to Densoproducts.com and came with 4 different sets ranging from $2-$12. Not exactly sure which would be best, the long life or the top dollar one. The OME one is the cheapest.
I need wires too. Should I stick with the same brand as plugs or does it matter?
Again, which is better....Iridium or Platinum?

For wires I'd go stock with a new cap and rotor from the dealer. The lengths are right, they are numbered so less boo boos and they work great.

i run ngk vpower plugs and although my 4runner is fouling them every 2 months every time i put a new set in or clean the other ones its like a new runner man!!

good stuff.. my trail rig run like a champ on them too!!

I got NGK wires. They were numbered and the correct lenght .

I've always used Denso plugs and changed them every 30K miles in my 1995 3.0. Never had trouble finding them - Autozone and Pep Boys always seem to have them when I need 'em. Be sure to put some anti-sieze on the plug threads so they don't tear up the threads in the cylinder head.

yup im runnin cheap-o ngk's every 30-40K in my 3.0. Thinking about running denso iridiums next time. They are expensive but did wonders in my mustang gt.

I generally run NGK plugs in everything- truck, boat, mower, etc. Got NGK platinums in my 22r, runs great.
