i need help......desprately

ok guys hope someone can help me here.... i have an 84 x-cab and the guy i bought it from did a 22re swap. well i drove the thing from boise idaho to washington things were great until.....i blew a head gasket and a chunk blew outta my head. i put a new head on the motor which is an 86, got my timing all set and fired it over. Well it ran for a couple seconds then died and wouldnt stay running unless the rpm's were at 4500 or higher. i checked all my valves and they are all set correctly. so i put the valve cover on and tried again this time i took and sprayed carb cleaner into the intake while itwhile my buddy cranked over but one i stopped spraying the damn thing dies. i have no idea where to start. if anyone has any ideas please let me know......

So its fuel related most likely since the carb cleaner kept it running. Make sure the fuel pump is working. Check it by jumping FP and B+ terminals in the diagnosis box (if you have it since it was swapped) otherwise check the pump directly with a multimeter. It could be a problem with the AFM as well so check that along with EFI fuses and the COR.

I wonder could you have got the timing off when you put the cam sprocket back on.

The engine will not run when you have the air intake system apart it needs the flow of air through the AFM to keep the fuel pump turned on.
