How to Remove Spare Tire Underneath?
Hey Everyone,
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It's scorching out here
I have a 91 4runner, and I'm having considerably difficulty trying to get the spare tire out. I don't have a manual, and am looking for some help (pictures) on how to get the spare tire out. What tools are needed?
Gas is already expensive as it is, and I don't need extra weight on my 4runner.
If anyone can help out, that would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

In the rear storage compartments there are the other tools necessary.
Use the long stick with a hook on it under the rear seat and the handle will be in the rear storage compartment.
In the rear bumper there is a a small hole slide it in there angled in towards the drivers side. Look under under the bumper and land the hook it into the spare tire winch. It sticks if it has not been used in a while. If it sticks unhook the pin then unbolt the winch. Crank it down by hand. Take the two phillips screws out of the winch housing and soak it with PB Plaster until it turns.
Hope that helps.

Hey Guys,
Thanks so much for the fast response
I looked everywhere for the tool kit, and I could not find it. I think the previous owner either took it / misplaced it.
Do I need the tool in order to get the spare tire down, or is there another alternative?
Thanks a bunch!

At minimum you need the long rod with a hook from under the passenger seat. You could use a wrench or something to turn it.
I'm sure you could improvise on the long rod- but what a hassle.
