How much lift to level rear (PIC)

My 4Runner has the standard-issue SAS (saggy ass syndrome ) and I want to level it out. I don't really want to take the spring packs apart for an AAL, so I'm planning on a 4Crawler lift shackle. How long do you all think I should go on that to level my truck? If a 4" longer shackle nets ~2" of lift, I'm thinking that might be a good way to go for me. Opinions?

I'd say youre about 2-3" from stock ride height... but I'm no expert

I would agree, about 2" low...guessing by the miles your springs are pretty much shot. Do you wheel it? A freind of mine had 200+ miles on his stock springs (92 Jeep, I know I know)...but we went wheeling one weekend, after some flexing they came out S shaped, and every bump we hit he lost an inch, by the time we got home he was on the bump stops in 4 corners...anyways the point is, if you wheel it I would replace the springs, certainlly no AAL that would just kill your springs sooner.

4" shackles would get that back, but probally screw up your pinon angle.

The problem is, an extended shackle on a sagged stock spring is just going to cause it to sag more, you aren't really going to get much lift out of it and if you do, probably not for long. All that will happen is you will get a nasty negative arch. A long AAL would probably serve you better and new springs even better.

Hmm, okay. I called Downey a while back to get prices on their 2" and 3" lift spring packs, and I believe they said $180 for the pair. Is this a pretty good price? Who else has full replacement spring packs, stock or not?

Try Alcan. They have a good reputation. They're more expensive though. There are several threads that have information on Downey springs as well as others including Alcan. As I've mentioned, I'm not a big fan of Downey generally. I'm putting Alcan on my truck when I get around to it. I need to solve my own SAS due to age, abuse, and extra weight (shell and hitch).

Put Chevy springs in there, they can be used on these first gens and can be setup to give you less than 1" lift if you so desire.

When I did mine I found a shop nearby that took the springs, rebent them, and added a thick leaf, along with replacing the bushings for about $300

I'm not welding a bunch of crap in; this is my DD and I'm not a real wheeler anyway. Right now the Mustang is still the project, not the truck.

I currently have Alcan, they are 56" 4"lift. They are for sale for 250, They were 500 new. The only reason I am selling them is they are now on a P/U, and they were made for my 95 4runner, so they are a bit stiff.

AllPro Makes a good srping, but the 4runner is at the top end of the weight rating they are built for, hence I had Alcan's made.

If you are just going for a level stance you probally only need a 1" spring lift. If you go with a 2 or 3" lift you rectify the SAS and then some, forcing to lift the front for level. If you go with a 1" lift and find that your still 1/2" low you can then throw shackles in and call is good. Alcan reccomends a longer shackles anyhow, for increased articulation.

The Alcan is an excellent spring. And they make it to your weight and use specs.

A hunting buddy has the 2.5" downey springs, he has turned his t-bars up a bit, and has to have 400+ pounds is the rear to sit level and have a bearable ride. But that is a P/U so a runner might be heavy enough.

i agree a lift is not going to fix your problem atleast not for long
