How much does a 2.7 or 3.4 swap cost?

I have been weighing some options recently and would like to know how much a 2.7 or a 3.4 cost on average? Next question is it worth it? Which one gives you the best bag for your buck? How hard are they to do?

Depends on plenty of things. What engine do you have currently? I'd guess 22r(e) since you're considering the 2.7. What transmission do you have? Do you have good wrecking yards or a good Craigslist or some other classifieds in your area? I'm assuming so, since you're location says Sac. What are your performance goals? Have you happened to check the 3.4 swap section on here? Yotatech.com/f160.

Dunno how relevant my info would be, but here's about my list of costs
Engine+trans $1000
Sold 3.0 -$300 or so
ORS harness and kit pieces $1059 or something like that
Toyonlyswaps crossover manifold $150
Marlin crawler clutch kit $350

Never sold the trans, used the 3.0 trans and last I heard my sister scrapped the 3.4 r150 I had setting at my parents' where I did the swap. Also, if you don't have the tools already, there's rental of a hoist and stand, jack and stands probably, and the cost of whatever fluids and maintenance parts you get. I got an engine in great shape, minus the timing belt was slightly overdue and the power steering pump that came with it was shot.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, so you should check out the swap section, toyonlyswaps.com, and even offroadsolutions.com still has info up on their website, at least.

Was it worth it? Heck yes! I didn't even have as much a problem as some did with the 3.0, but it's still made the drivability tons better. A particular grade outside of Eugene, OR on hwy 58 used to see me going down to 3rd and floored to keep 60 with nearly nothing in the rig. With the 3.4 and loaded to the gills when I moved down here for work, I was able to go up the same hill in 4th and probably 2/3 throttle to keep 60. No gear or tire changes from 3.0 to 3.4.

Are you talking doing all the labor your self or having it done??

Now from start to finish paying for labor and the vehicle to do the swap I have around $12,000 is it worth it . Well to me it was much better then spending the money redoing the kitchen!!

Buy a complete vehicle with a good running 3.4 the correct ecu if it does not match yours manual/auto a new wire harness for the 3.4 .

Depending on your skills the integration of the two wiring harnesses could be the hardest part.

Now I have all the parts to do a 7MGTE Swap but I like the 3.4 so much better I just may go that way.

am i reading that right you spent 12k on your 3.4 swap gotta hand to you your dedicated.

im trying to get mine done for under $2500 i got lucky thought picked up a 3.4 with all the goodies for $1000 bucks. and im gonna be doing all the labor myself though so that will save me a heap of cash.

citrusthedragon

ive heard sacramento has a some of the best toyota truck dismantlers in cali so your in a good location to get the parts for either swap.

all toyota truck and suv parts, and rancho toyota truck parts are a couple ive heard of i think there's more too but im not sure. however if your looking to save some cash try to find one at pick and pull they don't know what they've got so you may get a better deal.

I have a 22re, g54 trans but might get an r151 for the swap. Wrecking yards are pretty good around here but charge out way to much for parts most times I could have it shipped from the web cheaper. Performance was going to do a bored stroked 22re with head work and a cam for a little more power but realized that a stock 2.7 had the bore and stroke I was trying to achieve with a DOHC. Saying that I couldn't find much backing for an aftermarket on the 2.7, so I started looking into the 3.4 but it seems like a heavy engine for our trucks.

i was wanting to do alot of the work myself but I'm kinda a noob to engine swaps and wiring.

I'm hoping to get a pretty good deal too by buying a full T100 whether it's the 2.7 or 3.4. I'm using other parts on the truck for different upgrades and projects.

Just a rule of thumb for an engine swap. Put a number out there on what you think it will cost and budget twice that. I know it sounds stupid, but there are lots of unknowns in a swap and its nice to be able to cover it. Trust me haha.

Search. There is a 3.4 forum full of info on the 3.4 swaps.

I can do them myself and including the project vehicle, donor vehicle, parts etc NOT counting labor you won't get there for under $5k and have anything worth a ˟˟˟˟.

ya having the donor vehicle is the way to go for sure. how come ur thinkin the 3.4 is too heavy? doesn't weight anymore than a 3.0 does.

I spent about $4-5K on my 2.7 swap. And I did all the install labor myself. I had the machine shop do engine disassembly and reassembly, but I removed all accesories, and reinstalled everything. With the cost of LCE Perf. master rebuild kit, machine work expense, cost of engine/bellhousing/wiring harness from the wrecking yard, all new clutch (Marlin), alternator, radiator, Chilkat mounts, FSM wiring books, etc.... It adds up very fast.

I had someone tell me once that the power to weight ratio was better on the 2.7 then the 3.4, the 22re seemed like a dog but has crap power to weight ratio

I have to brag I have about $1600 in mine from including the cost of the vehicle, tires, and locker. Get a complete doner, then part it out when you're done, then scrap it. It was a lot of work, headache, researching, and head scratching. There are a few of us that have done it ultra low budget, and it always includes a complete doner.

Rokblok, JustDSM, BigMike from Marlin, and the RA Designs guy(cant quite remember his username on here right now) are the guys that I can think of off the top of my head.
