How much brake fluid required to completely flush brake AND CLUTCH? 91 2wd

So how much brake fluid is it going to take me to completely flush my brake AND CLUTCH fluids?

I figure at least 16 oz but how much over that?

Not that it matters but it's a standard 1991 2wd.

That is a trick question if you mean just change out all the old fluid and replace with new.

Or did you really mean to keep putting fresh fluid through both systems till it comes out squeaky clean.

The second just how long the fluid has been in there impacts how many times you need to refill things .

If I was younger I would figure out the volume of the brake system

my best answer is lots

How far to the closest place you can get more brake fluid.

I buy brake fluid by the case so don`t really keep track of things like this to close.

The fluid actually looks fairly clean but since the truck is new to me I'd like to flush it all out so I know the history. Also since I'm going to change the rear wheel cylinders out I want it clean.

Buy 2 quarts and you should be good. You may get lucky and have one quart to return.

I would not return the unused one, but someone tight on cash or not likely to use it could return the unopened quart especially if it was purchased close by.

I would return it if it was unopened, but I have stores all around me. It's better for me to return it then let it sit for a year unused, even if it isn't opened.
I only have one vehicle to worry about so unless there's leaks...

When I open a can of brake fluid if I don't use it within a day it gets disposed of.

Think about what you said opened sealed plastic bottle of DOT #3 brake fluid.

Following this line of logic you should also dispose of the fluid in the Master Cylinders of the clutch and Brakes as well.

As that is in the same condition as the fluid in a seal plastic bottle

I can get you a super deal on 8000 gallons of brake fluid do you have room to drop a trailer??

Now if you have a reason because of where you live or who lives with you I can understand .

Some places you are not allowed to have a gas grill or a can of gas for a lawn Mower . Any heat but electric Cities you gotta love them.

I don't know if it's BS or not but I've heard a few stories about brake fluid going bad. Yes they were still sealed. I can put a YouTube link up later if I can still find it. The guy talks about it being way old and brake fluid actually having a shelf life.

But like I mentioned he and the others may have been full of it.

Just like brake fluid in the brake system it tends to collect moisture when exposed to the air.

Now a container of brake fluid sitting around for 2 years with the cap off is a different story.

So the shelf life would be about the same for changing the brake fluid.

When you think of it the cap is removed off the master cylinders more then the cap off the brake fluid container.
