How much of the body parts are interchangeable on 1987 & 1985 Toyota trucks?
I am in the process of purchasing a 87 Toyota 4x4. I currently own a wrecked 1985 Toyota 2x4. Both trucks are standard cabs. Both trucks are 5 speed w/ 22r engine. Both trucks have the same style windows without the wing window.
Does anybody know if the passenger door on my 1985 Toyota Pickup fit the 1987 Toyota pickup? Windows and regulators are interchangeable. Both have the big windows with no wing window.
How much from the cab on the 85 can I put in/on to the 87 truck? Are the body parts interchangeable between the two trucks?
Thanks

You can swap just about any body part with the exception of throwing a long bed on a short bed frame..
There would be (if I recall correctly) some front body mount differences if swapping a 2wd cab to a 4wd cab frame..

Speaking of beds... My 85 2x4 truck has a 7' bed on it and the 87 4x4 truck I am in process of buying has a 6'6" bed on it. Both beds measured from the same point to the outside edge of the tailgate. Can I put my 7' bed on the 87 truck that currently has the 6'6" bed.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The front fenders from 79-95 are different on two wheel and four wheel drives. Doors are interchangeable. Just about everything body wise is interchangeable. Pretty sure from 79-88 you could even interchange fenders with 2 wheel to 4 wheel if you wanted to. Cant on the 89-95 due to the side lights and you might could there if you swapped everything.
Not sure on the bed swapping question.

Fenders from model years 79-83 are different than 84-88.
Fenders are also different between 2 and 4wd. 4wd have a wider 'flare' over the front wheels which also affects the front corner / marker lights, bumper and chin as well.
Doors are interchangeable between 84-88 pickup / hilux and 84-89 4Runner.

I realize this isn't body parts, but when I swap my 22R out of my 1985 Toyota 2x4 and put i in the new truck which is a 87 Toyota 4x4 with a 22r also am I going to have any problems with the connections to the carburettor, emissions? Never gave that any thought until I just got thinking about what I was going to have to buy to do the swap out...

I should of worded my previous statement a little different. Each generation the fenders are interchangeable with each other. I didnt mean to say a 79 fender was the same as 88 or similar, abecedarian has it right and did a better job of explaining it.
Your motor will inter change. You will need to swap oil pans and oil pick up tube. Basically all you will need to do is swap out your fuel systems. The motors are the same.

What about the carburetor? Do the have the same carburetors?
What is the difference in the fuel systems that they need to be swapped out? Not having my new truck here yet I have nothing to compare.

85 2x4 vs 87 4x4 only 30% - 40% of parts are interchangeable
After spending quite a bit of time working on this 87 4x4 I can tell you that only about 30% - 40% of the parts are interchangeable! The 87 4x4 is built quite a bit more heavy duty then the 85 2x4.
The brakes on the 4x4 are massive compared to the 2x. Double cylinders on the front discs and much larger cylinders and shoes on the rear brakes.
The doors are very much different. The panel and arm rest is much larger on the 87 and not interchangeable at all
Emissions are different also, VSV controlling Charcoal canister vacuum is not compatible.
Exhaust is not compatible, only catalytic converter is exchangeable, I think?
Fenders on the 4x4 are flared more then 2x4 fenders.
Wheels are 5 lug vs 6 lug...
