How many Rattle Cans did it take to paint your truck?

I am going to be painting my truck and want to spend very little money on the paint. I wanna use Rustoleum rattle cans. One coat of primer and a coat of flat black.
The reason for the cheap paint job is because this truck gets abused off-road. It just came back to life after a roll over and i dont wanna spend much on the paint.
The last paint job i did was with a pressure pot sprayer in my dads garage and i spent about 300$ on good auto paint and supplies. The paint held up very well and looked good, now i just dont care about the beauty of it like i used too.

So about how many cans did you go through for ONE coat. I figure 5 cans a coat will be enough. And if you got pictures of your Rattle Can job that would be great.
Thanks Jason,

Go to home Depot, they have their own brand made by Rustoleum...I believe. Which is less than half the cost.

my buddy is going to paint his with krylon camo flat tan i believe..

Its like just over $4 a can at walmart...

I think for one thin coat, a can got one side of the bed... so take that for what it is worth.. I couldn't give you a great answer but idk if that helps or not.

I think I spent around $5.50 or so for the flat tan on my truck and used about 5 or 6 cans. Bought it at Walmart maybe 8 months ago. Only had to paint the cab and frontend since my bed got a different color. I don't worry about the scratches but the dents buff out nice with the leftover paint!!!

I love my rattle can paint job. Cheap and after i scrape a tree, i've got an instant touch up. I used about 11 cans of Fred's red spraypaint at 99 cents each. No primer, just wet sanded the old original paint.

no primer, i just washed the truck. then i used some 320 grit sand paper and sanded it down. after that i wiped it down with some diluted paint thinner on an old towel.

then just pulled the easy stuff (tail lights etc.), and taped off the rest.

they even sell those lil trigger/handle things for rattle can's lol.

Well with that much spraying you'd get a numb thumb!!! Then you may end up with runs...can't have that.

try krylon's new glossy paint. I did a small rust patch with it a few weeks ago. Sadly, it looks better than the factory paint, which is now all faded and scratched.
