How many miles do you have on your 3.0?

202,000 miles +/- on the body, should be about 90-something thousand on the engine. The head gaskets blew on the PO and Toyota just installed a brand new engine.

Not for me. This was back in like '98 or '00 when the previous owner still owned it. He kept all the maintenance records from when he owned it so I'll have to look back at them to see exactly what they did. It was either a whole engine or just the long block.

I own two 22RE's, one in the pickup in my avatar, and one in a '90 4Runner. I'll take a well-maintained 3.0 any day over a 22RE.

My '94 has 196,000, and runs like it just rolled off the factory floor. No oil consumption, excellent compression and oil pressure, easily passes emissions, etc. As far as I can find out, Toyota has no record of doing the head gasket, nor do they show that the HG service campaign is outstanding on it. I think it may have been manufactured late enough such that the HG service campaign did not apply.
It could last another 200K, or quit tomorrow, but that's pretty much true of any 20-year-old engine with 200,000 miles. Currently it runs well enough that I'm not afraid to take it on long trips or into semi-remote areas. I figure it will get me home one way or another. Worst case, I have long legs and I like to hike!:-)

same year,
same fear... or lack there of.
timing belt prolly due, last done 135k.
mobil1 or castrol equiv once oil looks like weak denny's coffee (2700-4300miles), HG had been done by PO, first several tunes and repairs done at stealership..

I have abusively put many miles on my 92 3.0 and 5spd with 310K mi, HG recall was done before I picked it up the 4R from used car dealer with 40K mi on it. I change oil every 2k-3k use cheap Penz dino 10-30 or 10-40 for all of it and no oil burn and comes out clean compared to most newer cars.
The oil gauge during idle hot still sits at the bottom line and just above the top line on the freeway.
I have gone through more rear diffs then timing belts and waterpumps.
The engine, Trans and odometer have been transplanted into a 92 EXcab pickup and pushing hard, So you could say I am backwards to most Toy owners who replace there engine before the body.

My 95 3.0 4runner has 218,332 on it. I had to do a head gasket replacement about a year and a half ago. Runs strong, no problems since I did the head gaskets. Don't know if the previous owner replaced them before but I think it was the first time it's been done.
I've heard that there's a way to eliminate some of the vacuum lines on the 3.0. I couldn't find any threads on it though. Anybody know how to do it?

about $350 for a kit that had all the seals from above the heads. The whole job costed me about $800 because I needed a new water pump, timing belt, spark plugs & wires. I also rerouted the exhaust to connect with a y under the body and new exhaust system all together.

Had 280k on my 4runner when the 3.0 engine blew up, but with a broken rod slamming around sounding like a jackhammer under the hood it still went a few minutes on the freeway and up a mile of steeeep roads to get me home. Then my girlfriend tried to borrow it without telling me, and she made it about 5 miles on that grenaded motor then had to call a tow truck.
