How many gaskets is a 22RE EGR *supposed* to have?

How many gaskets is a 22RE EGR *supposed* to have?

So I'm going through some smog issues right now, and one of the things the smog tech recommended was cleaning the EGR out with carb cleaner, etc.

So, after an hour of wrestling, I got the damn thing out and cleaned it up a little. I also removed the vacuum modulator and cleaned it, per the FSM, with compressed air.

I ordered the gasket for the EGR and when I picked it up from the auto parts store, it was just the gasket that goes on the intake manifold side. I would think there would also be one for the head side? Is there not?

I want to button it back up and run some FSM tests (which require the engine running!) before taking it back for my third try.....for those who know, please chime in

thanks!

Hey Philbert, just wanting to verify that there is no gasket on the part that attaches to the block? Ordering some gaskets for my rebuild and just double checking.

The gasket between the EGR and the cylinder head is the intake manifold gasket. If you don't feel like removing the intake manifold to replace the gasket, just scrape that part of the head clean and cut the EGR part of the intake manifold gasket off.

It takes two gaskets. One to the head that is part of the intake manifold and one one the intake chamber. Most intake manifold gaskets have a tear away part that can be used solely on the EGR.
