gears will give you the best bang for the buck. also advance timing to 15 degrees and run better fuel. gears will help a lot more though.

Tell your gf to loose some weight.

You can add cams and headers, but there expensive and in the end your still stuck with a 3.0. Advancing the timing is good for a little "free" power.

Not that its a bad motor, besides the HG they are very reliable, just not a powerhouse.

First, what gears are currently in it?

Click here to learn how to find out --> http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html

Then, what size tire are you running/do you plan to run? Auto or manual tranny?

You have some options. Find used pre assembled 3rds. 4.56 and 4.88s can be found in stock trucks and can often be pulled from junkyards for cheap, and learn how to swap them out yourself.

Or buy new gears and bearings and have a shop set your diffs up, which will probably be about 3x the cost of used thirds.

Your front and rear gears must match if you plan on using 4wd.

The greatest true "power" increasing mods are headers, advanced timing, and the ISR mod. These are cheaper than tearing apart the engine to chop at its innerds.

I noticed a little bump in power with those.. Maybe 5 hp. Maybe.

Better than those, though not true power inducing, is to throw 29 inch tires on there. Totally defeats the purpose of a 4wd truck, though..

I mean, would you ask how to make a 69 Charger more fuel efficient or a 70s Mustang less ugly? Come on....
