How high do you rev your 3vze :D

If there is already a thread for this let me know, I searched around a bit but didnt find one.

From reading the 22re thread, sounds like these things dont get going til over 3000.

When I first got my truck I rarely went over 3000, engine seems to start growl real loud and shake the car anything over 3200 or so, so I just kept it under that90% of the time.

Whats everyone else rev? Ive had it past 4000 before but very rarely. Pretty much stock engine wise, 31x10.5R15 tires.

Way past 3000 rpm, and often. Frequently to the rev limiter @ 7500 rpm.

I have the 3VZE/A340H automatic transmision.

I usually cruise 60-65 mph at around 2400-2500RPM, the engine seems pretty comfortable there. When climbing steep hills I click it out of overdrive and run 2800-3500rpm, which I'm sure is perfectly fine but at 170k I'm trying to get as much as I can out of the engine so I don't ratbag it too much.

Anyone else with a 5spd notice that the 3VZE really hesitates until it gets to like 26-2700 and then kicks in hard. I notice it in 1st gear the most. Trying to punch it from a light and it's a dog and then just before you are gonna shift at 3K, it kicks in. Lot of weird qualities to this engine.

Mine runs like crap when it's cold.

Overgeared... i do 60 at 3000RMP... 70 at 3500 RPM and 80 at 4000RPM in 5th gear.

I normally shift before 3000, but occasionally bounce her in second gear up to 5000 because i like feeling my truck go vroom.

I used to shift at 2k when I tried to save gas. Now I shift at 3 grand. I find that the power kicks in at 4000 rpm and ends at 5500

Usually shift at around 3k I guess, though it's the sound of the engine rather than the tach that I follow. On that note, I often ride it over 3k, especially through 2nd and 3rd where the truck seems to really like the 2900-3300 range. So, I tend to think that each gear behaves a little differently than another. I try really hard not too go to high in 1rst just because it sounds like the thing is going to have an aneurysm. Also, if there's anything in the truck beside myself and maybe a receipt or house fly, I have to drive in 4th and sometimes 3rd in order to get over large passes...and that's at 3500-3700.

The worst speed for my truck is the high 30s where 3rd is pushed well over 3k but 4th is below 2k.

Its funny mines useless over large passes as well but I find that there isnt much difference whether there is just me in the car, or if I have a couple people with me or Im towing a sled on a trailer. I still end up back in 3rd pushing 3200 rpm doing about 70kmph, lol

Hhmm. I definitely notice a difference with a load. However, I also think it depends on where I am revving when I hit the upgrade. If I'm already going 75 at 3100 in 5th, I can generally make it up the any (paved) pass doing 65-70. But, if I'm driving under 3000 rpms the poor thing faaaaades away. Then it's bumper to bumper with the oldsters in their 1970s RVs--which only hurts when they look over at me and wave, like 'hey sonny, welcome to the club'.

This is with factory 4.30 gearing and 32x11.5 tires, btw.

I shift around 2500-3000. Rarely rev past 4000 unless it's a crazy situation in 4wlo.

I usually don't go past 4000 rpm. Thought I do hit 3800-4000 rpm daily on a particular hill on my way home from work, downshifting the A430H into 3rd to hold 65-70 mph easily. It is steep.

With an automatic, my experience varies, and yours might too.
Before with 31x9.50x15 and stock 4.10 axles, I'd get it up there over 4500 or 4700 and it would waver (this with the ECT button on).
After with 35x12.50x15 and 5.29s, I still get it to waver up over 4700 before it shifts with the ECT button on.
Original mileage on original motor, 235,276. I drive sensibly around town but when getting on the freeway, I need the speed.
Reno has alot of hills especially west on I80. I hit the freeway at 3-4 times a month.

Around town I shift at 1500-2000, highway usually at 2500 until 5th where I loaf along at 48-50mph turning 2000-2300 revs.

around town, shift at 3100 max. when i choose to romp on it, i will pull her up to 4500 or so as the power seems to drop off there. 4wd power-slides in the snow or trying maintain momentum often calls for 5100-5200 rpm. which my truck does not seem to have a doing.
