I have been on the fence about what to do with the exterior of the truck. The guy that owned it before me linexed the whole truck and he did a terrible job. This truck was supposed to be just a farm/run around truck. But like everthing else I own its going to become an addiction. Just trying to figure out what to do.

im kinda wondering about this also, bottom half of mine is..i would be fine with it but half of it is coming off and looks like poop...maybe some paint eating chemicle would work

yea man I dont want to use some kind of stripper and really turn into a mess. I was thinking of redoing it and clearing the rhino lining

The only really luck that ive had with this mess is using a heat gun or a torch to get it hot and scrape it off. It sucks. Ive used the stripper method before but it takes forever.

wire wheel on a 4.5" grinder.
of course, it shouldnt really hurt the underlying body metal.
you could try sodablasting too. only around 230 bucks

Did it turn real slimy and make a mess or did it stay intact? I might have to try it.

Well i got it warm enough then took a putty knife and scraped as much as i could off then had to sand the small layer left off.

Most spray on liners come of with PVC primer. the primer eats right though it and wont hurt the the metal. I have never done it on a hole truck but I have spilled some in the bed of my truck and it come right off. Just a thought.

I heard somewhere that Aircraft Paint Remover/Stripper works wonders.
Nasty stuff but works great.
It'll eat concrete.

I saw a buddy of mine pick up a trashcan that was full of stripped paint. The whole bottom of the can (plastic) fell off and trash went everywhere. I don't generally laugh at the misfortune of others, but I made an exception for that one.

Yeah aircraft remover eats through paint like nothing. Just put it on wait a few minutes then wipe your paint off. Use to use it to strip valve covers back when I was in the Honda scene

wouldnt it be easier to just say add another layer to the truck of a difrent brand of rhino liner

id clean it good then add a nice layer of some good rhino liner many companys sale difrent colors seems easier than melting trash cans althougth it would be kinda neat to see

You want good solid adhesion.
You said the current paint is bubbling and chipping, guess that's gonna happen if you just paint over it...
The new paint is gonna bubble and chip.
Don't waste your money and time doing it wrong, do it right the first time. Strip the old paint off and start fresh.

I sprayed cheap walmart black over faded red durabak and it did not mix... Was great for about 3 months then it just started blistering everywhere. I haven't decided what to do about it yet. It's not down to bare metal but there are red cuts and holes all in the black now. If I do anything I want the liner off the truck and put paint back on.

Why would you wanna take it off? Doesent seem worth the trouble IMO. I think it looks pretty cool and you dont have to worry about getting your precious paint scratched. Id say it helps against any small dents that would occur too. But like i said thats just my opinion.

Its not real line x its that rhino line you buy from the damn grocery store or wherever.

I havent tackled it yet but it seems to be peeling off in some spots so who knows.
