How does my new longblock sound? (video)

I've got about 1000 miles on the new long-block and I'm hearing a little tapping noise, I can only hear it mid-way down the truck, kind of under the driver seat. It gets loudest near the O2 sensor/cat converter, am I overreacting over this? I can't hear it anywhere near the motor.

exaust leak? I know my exaust leak had me all worried. it seriously sounds like chain rattle. at the end of the video when you go up to the motor, i do hear like a tapping. as long as its not coming from inside the motor, I wouldnt really worry

You need to adjust the valves.

I just adjusted mine the other day on my 22re with 138K and when I checked them initially they were all way too tight. I adjusted them out to .008" intake and .012" exhaust and my motor sounds just like your does now. Some people say they do .007" and .011". I might try that in a few week if my gas mileage is worse or anything, otherwise I'll live with the noise. Better for the valves to be too loose than too tight anyways.

The spec sheet I got with the motor stated to adjust the valves cold at .008 INT and .010 EX (I verified this with the engine manufacturer) that is what they are currently at.

do you have a different cam than stock? Because the FSM calls for .008" and .012" hot but a lot of guys on here have had good luck with .007" and .011" cold, just throwing a suggestion out there

Its an aftermarket cam. Cam #801 Grind# 260. I don't know the manufacturer but the specs are.

Duration Degrees @ .050, INT 210 EXH 210
Valve Lift .420INT .420EXH

You should adjust them hot. I did when I had my aftermarket cam in mine.

I have found that when I adjust them to spec I get a rattle and when I adjust them by ear I get little to no rattle. I normally adjust to spec when hot and give them each about a quarter of a turn or less extra.

I've done this in both of my trucks and they hardly tick at all. one has 60k on a new motor and the other has 180k

Other than a little valve noise, it sounds good to me.
