Red face How do i lock my Hub? to get bolts out

Hi

im replacing my rotors how do i lock my hub to get out the 6 bolts you need to take out so i can replace my rotor

Also any one have tips to take out the 2 bolts (17 mm i think) to remove the brake caliper mine are rusted and wont budge

please
help im a noob

have someone hold the brakes while you break the bolts lose? PB blaster works well for stuck bolts.

if there vented like i think they are stick a flat head screw driver in the rotor not from left to right but just up and down through the little holes between each face of the rotor and then just spin it till it hit the calper and start taking them there bolts out hope it helps anda i x2 the bp blaster it works real good just dont get it on any sar-a-fome cups sorry i cant spell that word for anything right now hope it helps buddy

Use an air or electric impact gun.

Put it in 4wd and then you rear axle on the ground will keep the front axle from turning.

I dont have 4wd it kinda sucks anyone else have a good idea

wait wait, are you just trying to remove the rotor from the hub? If so, you first have to remove the hub from the spindle (yes this means you will have to repack the bearings)

Get it out on the ground, then go to town on it. The rotor CANNOT be removed until the hub is removed from the spindle.

now im confused

to replace rotor dont i just need to get out the 6 front bolts to switch out the rotors i have the FSM and can't really understand it (not good) but the 6 bolts is how i get out the rotors right?

please help

I just explained what you need to do, but I'll say it again.

YOU CANNOT remove the ROTOR from the HUB without pulling the hob off of the spindle. Its not like a 3rd gen that has a "floating" or non-bolted rotor. Yours is bolted to the hub assembly, which means you will have to remove the hub from the spindle.

And dont get that crap from Autozone. You might as well light a $20 bill on fire.

All toyota trucks and 4runners, to 1995 MUST have the hub/rotor assy removed to unbolt the rotors from them.

6 bolts? DeathCougar is right, 2WD remove the cap, cotter pin, nut, washer and outer bearing then the rotor just pulls off. Of course you'll need to swing the caliper out of the way first, 2 bolts if memory serves.

That would only work if he has a truck. The 2WD 4runners come apart the same way as the 4wd, with 2 54mm nuts and a lock washer

With the Caliper bolts I use a 1/2" drive ratchet with a fairly long handle. Or you could use either a long handle 3/8" drive ratchet or a cheater bar on a short ratchet. Then follow the other instructions on removing the rotor. Once the caliper is off I just put it in the rim thats off (lug studs in holes) and use a deep socket on my 1/2" and my bar and they come out easy. Then I use a cold chisel in the gap between the halves and a hammer to separate them. Hope this helps..
