A compression test is easy and the equipment is cheap. A leak down test is more accurate and comprehensive, but requires more gear.

But if all you know (so far) is "bogs real bad", you have a lot of things to consider before you think of the really expensive stuff. In addition to compression, I'd check timing.

which timeing ? ignition or cam .., I don't think it is timeing .back when it over heated real bad it was the timeing but fixed that .ok I will do the compression test .just need to go to advanced auto and rent a tester . Dam long ride. One other ? I think i know the answer but if i find ,lets say the passenger side HG is leaking and not the driver side just replce the passenger side .you not broke don't fix or just do both? i assume they come in a set 1 for both sides .

exhaust smells sweet. and trust me youll know. heater wont work. oil cap will appear to have foam under it. swirls in the oil. dirty, oily coolant. these are all very basic ways to tell. and if i was going to go through the trouble id replace both while i was in there. be sure to only use toyota oem gaskets from the dealer. they hold up better. well worth the money.

Yeah it defiantly sounds like to different things. Either the fuel pump isn't keeping enough pressure in the fuel rail for open throttle or your not getting enough air mixture.

You can check the fuel pressure up on the fuel rail through the valve. Get ya a pressure tester and see what kinda pressure your pumps giving ya.

Fuel injection has to be pressurized to work correctly and if the pressure is not enough or to much then you will have problems.

As far as the air mixture goes that could be several things including a clogged filter or vacuum lines.

Check those out and let us know something as we all enjoy trying to help.

He means a shrader valve, which we don't have. Proceedure is in the manual. 38-44 regulator closed, 33-37 regulator open, and 21psi for 2minutes(?) after the pump is shut off. Proceedure tells you how to check the VSV also.

FSM 3vze fuel regulator section
I know your "not in civilization" so uhm see if the local shop will maybe let you borrow a fuel pressure tester

And Bookmark this one too.

Vacuum line is by the foot and pretty cheap, if you know you have vacuum leaks you really should replace them sooner rather than later. You'll be very unhappy if one of them solves your issue after spending a lot of time and cash. If the lines are worn out and damaged at the ends, they might be still good/soft an inch or so up from the connection. See if you can pull them a little tighter, if so you can just whack off the end and might be all set.
