Mine used to overheat when cruise control was used in hilly interstate terrain, or when pulling even the lightest of loads. The heat was palpable through the floor, and the Trans light would come on when it really got hot. Several years ago I installed a Hayden tranny cooler behind the radiator, and have never again had that problem.

well I have read on different forums, including this one , that some of the 2nd gen 4runners , have come with 4.88 gears as opposed to the I think 4.10's that i believe they normaly came with. which i could see regearing, but the 4.88's are enough for up to 33" tires. I am just going by what I read. but like I said I 've been running large tires fo a while now , and my problem just started .
