Homebrew light bar?
Has anyone here made their own light bar to mount to the roof? I wanted to build my own light bar but I'm not sure how to mount it to the roof. Weld it? screw it? I have a sunroof too if that makes a difference. Oh and to those that have mounted lights to the roof, what is the best distance back from the windshield to prevent glare? Thanks guys!

for glare paint your hood flat black or make a paint some plexiglass black and extend it about a foot under the lights (mounted to the light bar).
check out craiglist or ebay for a Yakima or Thule gutter mount Rack bar. Thule's are rectangular, can be drilled for light mounts, Yakima's are round, you can weld mounts to it. If you find just yakima gutter mounts you can pick up a piece of tubing to use as the crossbar...

I used a pair of old roof rack brackets and some 1.25" square tube that I had to make mine. I welded on 4 light tabs, and ran the wiring through the square tube, down the mounting bracket and tucked up under the headliner and down tha A-piller. They clamp around the top of the doorsill and have a single sheet metal screw as well.
I should also add that I just put the fogs on it because I had them lying around. Now that I'm gonna be building my winch bumper I'm gonna move my offroad lights up and build a protection hoop over and slightly inffront of the lights. (To protect them low hanging branches)

I might just do that, I can't believe how much yakima wants for a tube...maybe its a special tube...

mmmmm that is so tempting! Unfortunately fuel economy sucks as it is.
I have been talking with my neighbor and it looks like we are going build a new front bumper and mount the lights to that! Whoo hoo. I have wanted an offroady front bumper for awhile. Anybody interested in a stock bumper in decent condition?? Might have one for sale in a few weeks

Hey guys, I wanted to update the thread with what I ended up doing. Thanks for all your suggestions, I went with the Yakima gutter mount and yakima bar. I scored four mounts and two bars for $50 on craigslist! I still need to cut the bars down a bit; they stick out about a foot on each side.
Here are some pics of the goodies
