High Idle.....Help

I have been seaching for awhile but have not found anything like my problem so maybe you guys can help...When i start my 4runner it idles around 1500rpm then i start driving it for a while and it still idels around the same rpm. it never goes to what it is suppossed to (7~800rpm). today i had it warmed up and it was at the same RPM (1500) and i decided to puch the throttle by hand as far back as it would go, it wasn't mach but it seemed to kick the idle to where it needs to be. I reved it back up by hand and same thing it was at the high rev until i puched it back as hard as i could. its like its getting stuck or something but I dont see how it would be. I also was considering that it might be stuck in a cold start mode. Any ideas?????

I have a 93 toyota 4runner 5 speed BTW......Thanks

Clean intake? Or clean around the butterfly assembly. Is it a 22re or V-sex?

If you have either the 22re or the 3.0 (V6), it will say on the motor. Otherwise, it will be obvious by the design. The 22re is a four cylinder motor with four spark plugs. And, obviously the V6 will have six plugs.

Do you know what the throttle body is at all? It's this thing....

http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...93throttle.pdf

Inside is the butterfly assembly....or more technically, the throttle valve plate. Carbon can build up inside the throttle bore (the opening in the throttle body) and cause the plate to hang up/stick. Take the intake tube off of the throttle body and look inside...you'll see the plate. Hit the throttle lever (where the throttle cable connects) and see if the plate returns to a complete close or not.

Another possibility is the dashpot sticking. That is illustrated in the link I posted above. The spring loaded rod should push in and somewhat slowly return to it's original position. See if that's working, also.

Apologies if I seem to explain in such an elementary way, but I don't know how much you know about your vehicle. Okay?

cool thanks for posting. I do know a pretty good chunk about cars, it is a 6cyl not the 4. im going to clean the throttle body tomorrow. I also noticed that when im at a light and its idling high i tap on the gas really fast and it kicks the idel down to about 1K. So im thinking it is dirty. Can you guys think of anything else just in case that does not work so i can have other things lined up to check for??? Thanks again everyone for responding....

could be the throttle body shaft not spinning freely, build-up behind the throttle body plates inside, the cable that actuates the throttle could be corroded or dirty inside or maybe the pedal is sticking.
