Hesitating, Bucking, COR Fixed
Hey Guy's, It's my first post but I have been here awhile....It's my turn to hopefully help someone......My truck is a 1990 4wd 22RE M/T
My problem started about 500 miles after my motor rebuild (I will post my build later with pics).
Here were the symptoms:
1) I started to have a few hesitations while driving home from work, like after 20 miles. but nothing on the way to work.
2) Hesitating started to happen more often, so I started to check all the normal stuff (Cap, Rotor, Wires, Coil, checked 4 of my motor ground points) found nothing wrong as most was replaced during my rebuild.
3) After a few days of this problem only happening while driving home, the problem started to get really bad.....while driving on the freeway, it would start with a few hesitations then become more to where I would have to get off the freeway.
While at the stop light off the freeway I would be able to rev the motor, but as soon as I accelerated in first gear it would give a violent bucking then I go to second gear and more bucking till I pulled over...
Funny thing is I would turn the truck off for a few seconds then start it & I could drive the rest of the way home with no problems....
I started to check more items in the next 3-4 days (check and adjust TPS, AFM, EFI relay, Circuit relay swith (cor), ECM, Fuel pump, Fuel filter & Fuel pressure) All checked out to be OK!!
I was stumped, so more reading and searching this Great Site!!!
I cam across this Thread by: mattaway https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-fixed-179998/
So I checked my Circuit Relay Switch (COR) AGAIN!!!!
STA-E1 26.5 ohms -------Range is 17-25 ohms
+B-FC 141.5 ohms ------Range is 88-132 ohms
+B-FP Infinity------------ Infinity
Slightly out of spec as to my manual..........Did more searching on relays as this is a expensive item and was the only item out of spec from what I have checked on the truck.
Found a thread with a post #12 from Hadmatt54 on relays that might check out good but may work intermittently...... https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116.../#post51469578
So I pulled mine out: Here where it is located, above the ECM
Popped the cover off it, to look inside:
Found that the point contacts inside the relay were slightly pitted. So I got some sand paper and lightly cleaned the contacts inside the relay. Just like points in a points distributor
Not a detailed picture but I hope you could see the contact points cleaned up in the picture.
Problem solved after cleaning the relay points......now I can drive with confidence...............
Thank You........mattaway, Hadmatt54 & Yotatech
Sorry for the long post but, I went threw hell trying to solve this problem so I thought I would list all my problems & solutions for the next guy searching and needing help...
Thanks Again,
