Help with welding a v6 3rd
Ok, so i decided to weld up my rear 3rd today. got it all apart and then this stumps me. Weve welded 4cly diffs before so i dont know what to do here. Ive never taken the 3rds apart before, so setting up the gearing scares me. And i would just throe a 410 4cyl 3rd in but i have 430s. the other thing is that i dont have alot (like any) money so if i cant mess this up. anyway, whats the best way to get to this? any help would be great. thanks.
so.....what is this thing covering my spider gears!!!

sweet deal hiGis! I'm bookmarking that thread! I'll be sourcing a V6 3rd here soon and plan on putting a Lockright in it, so that might come in pretty useful!
excellent beinner poster right there!

so weve given up on the idea of trying to weld this. cant tack the gears together or to the cross through the windows. if we take it apart and weld the gears there is a VERY good chance that they will not line up when putting the thing back together. soooo im now in the market for a locker or a spool....and some one recommended i get a spool made by durasolid. its cheap (about 70) compared to all the other ones i was looking at that were around 150. has anybody heard about them? Its not a name im familiar with. heres the link

So you have 4.30's with a V6? From the factory? Does the axle code read G284? How come I'm just hearing of this now?
Last question(s),
Where do I get one? Or do I have to make my own? I've got the 4.30 gears, but I was gonna run them in the 4cyl housing they're in with just the V6 carrier(has 4.10's) I already have(via LCE's conversion bearings). But they be around $100 a pair.

4.30's are lower than 4.10's, which came stock with my truck. I have 35" tires and 4.30's with my setup works to my liking. I still get good highway mpg and 4 low makes up for the rest when I'm not. I'm not looking to regear anytime soon, I just want the strength of the V6 diff and/or carrier with 4.30 gears. And it's not a direct ring & pinion swap. There's gonna be setup and/or special parts involved, and I'd rather get one already setup/used for cheap if I knew where. I really only need the 4.30 pinion setup in the V6 housing, the rest I can handle.

Id like to go lower, it doesn't crawl to well. in my little dream world after the SAS is done id like to be runnning 5.29s
