help!! squeaky springs.

The last couple of months i have noticed a loud squeaking noise coming from my rear leafs. At first i thought maybe it was the shackles but, it appears to be coming from the actual stack of leaves. Tried squirting some wd 40 but to no avail. It seems to only make the noise as i am flexing or putting a load in the back. Thanks Clint

Try flexing each side and spraying lube between the leafs when they are fully unloaded..

Jack it up from the rear bumper until the leafs are fully unloaded, then put grease ALL in between them, spread it around with a butter knife (works best!) until it's all lubed up. It makes your ride a little better, too.

Either the leaves are squeaking against each other or the shackle bolts are squeaking inside the spring bushings. For the leaves, best option is to separate the leaves and clean and lube them. Options? Graphite paint works well (I use SlipCoat brand). Or graphite loaded wheel bearing grease brushed onto the touching surfaces. WD-40 won't last long enough to supply any quieting. Other options is a spray-on grease or even motorcycle chain lube. For the spring bushings, silicone grease for rubber bushings or any grease for poly bushings.

WD-40 actually evaporates if it is not in a sealed area.

It's more than likely not the coils, but the control arm bushings that have dried out.

I finally stopped the squeaking today. First i did what ya'll told me and jacked the truck up and put grease between the springs. While i was doing this i noticed that there was dirt in between them. After that didn't work i got the pressure washer out and cleaned in between the springs well. Finally i hopped up and down on the bumper and the squeak was gone.

Not really. It leaves a residue that lasts for weeks even under rainy conditions.

WD-40 is a great protectorant for your undercarriage. I spray the entire undercarriage a few times a year, it repels water and dirt and leaves a 2+wk (like i said even in rainy conditions) black sheen to your undercarriage. (Looks like ya freshly painted everything).

Thats my tip of da'day =)

*If you do this, do it before you wash your truck.. Well wash the undercarriage or whatever your spraying good, let it dry then coat it. If you do this after washing/waxing the mist from the spray will get onto the paint and can't be wiped off easily*****
