Help with speedometer cable removal-trans end

hello all, I'm in need of some assistance. I'm in the process of trying to fix my speedometer and I have the instrument cluster unscrewed. However, I know I need to remove the cable at the trans end in order to get enough slack on the cluster to slide the cable out. My problem is that I can't get the actual cable out of the driven gear area. I removed the 12mm retaining bolt and popped out the cable sleeve with the o-ring attached. Now the cable itself is stuck and I don't want to break anything. Anyone have any advice? I'd really appreciate it.

Can you get some pictures.

Not sure you disconnected just the cable. It should be a (about) 22mm knurled ring on the end of the cable to the sensor?

This thread, and this picture. tells me you've disconnected the sensor not the cable.

You need to unscrew the cable from that sleeve. It's the rounded grooved thingy that you touching in the second pic.

so is the speedometer cable the one in the picture you referenced? it looks like i may have been focusing on the wrong thing? the cable i'm disconnecting is at the driver's side of the trans while the cable you showed a picture of is at the rear of the t-case. which one is the actual speedometer cable?

If you are 2wd then it's at end of tranny. If your 4wd it's in transfer case
