Help with rear 3rd member

Hello Barry here from wv . I resently bought a 91 ex cab 4x4 for a work truck . 4 cyl 5 sp runs like a clock love it .
Now to the problem I was driving to work I hear a high pitch whine from the rear end , I only drive 15 miles to work , when I get there I fell there rear it's cool so I fig it will show its self. On the way home on a gravel road I could push clutch in and let coast at around 5 mph it would start to catch , clunk clunk clunk and stop the truck .
When I got home pulling up my driveway which is only 3% the truck stops pulling after making a fast buzzing noise . Now the driveshaft turns but not the rear wheels not even on jack stands? No noise at all now. What has happened ?
I pulled he rear driveshaft you can turn the yoke by hand easily and seems to be no slack in the pinion shaft .
Removed pinion nut still no slack and the pinion and yoke splines are good so I know
1: yoke is good
2 pinion to yoke splines are good
3: I don't think the pinion shaft is broke
What law is there

Wouldn't the wheel fall off?
I put it up on jack stands and checked the wheels for looseness there was none and when I turned one the other turned a little but not much

Sooner or later, probably sooner, but not necessarily immediately.

Ultimately, unless by some remote twist, there is some tranny issue; You are going to have to open up the rear axle unit in order to fix it.
That process will show whether or not there is any axle trouble before you ever have to get into the 3rd member.

Check craigslist and the YT classifieds you see a lot of bolt in 3rds for sale from people that have done SAS's or just bought new clusters to bolt in. Worth a look. Be careful if you do eBay or amazon because there is good and crap out there. I routinely see 4:10's cheap $50 a cluster 4:56&4:88 for 100-150 a cluster more if it has a locker.
