Help please!! 87 4runner 22re power cutout at 1800 RPM.

1987 4runner 22re, 240,000 miles, rebuilt 12,000 miles ago. Was running great then suddenly started to have an intermittent RPM cutout at 1800. Complete power loss even when manually operating throttle while in neutral. Can not regain power even with throttle open until RPM is allowed to drop to 1500. Runs fine as long as RPM is kept between 1500 and 1800. What sensor might be governing this? Not sure what would be the cause. Sometimes it will act up for just a short time and not show up for days. And other times will last for an hour. I had to limp it home keeping RPM between 1500 and 1800, every time hit the 1800 mark power would be cut out until 1500 RPM was reached. I have already dealt with the high idle issues in the past. Current idle is approximately 800-900. This is something new. The only things that have happened recently is washing the engine, and very cold temps below zero degrees. It seems to happen after sitting awhile. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
David

Well since I have not gotten any replies I decided to reply myself. I found that engine runs fine until it warms up. After searching and searching I could not find any exactly similar problems. However, I did find many that were some what similar. I finally let engine warm up until problem occurred and then I unplugged the TPS. Engine runs great with a slightly higher idle. Drove 100 miles without any problem. I am thinking that I may have damaged the TPS when I washed the engine. I hear that they are not perfectly sealed. This is a fairly new TPS, since I replace it when I did the rebuild. I will run some impedance test when I get a chance to verify my findings. Until then it is running and getting me to work.
