Help, no power after tuneup

I just replaced plugs wires cap rotor fuel filter oil pump water pump and timing set. Before I did this the truck had low power and sounded like a diesel (timing chain) Now the truck sounds better however this thing has no power. It is a 88 truck with the 22re. I have checked timing and it is set at 5 deg. Ths truck idles good and sounds good but will not hold 50 mph. Also I can floor the gas and it wont even spin the tires! Any help would be great cause I am lost and very discusted with this thing!!! Bill

yes marks were lined up and I even double checked them. Also the plugs are new NGK. I ran the valves .008 intake and .012 exh.

vacuum lines are hooked up. this is out there, but on a rally long shot, maybe your muffler or cat has a blockage. fuel pump or injectors going out. did you take the jumper wire out after you timed it? i am at a loss.

Yes jumper wire is out of it. When I put the wire in the timing or idle did not change! Also the pump is turning on and the exhaust is new... I too am al a loss. I am going to try and adjust the tps today at work and hopefully that is it. Bill

adjust the tps, and then redo the timing. the idle is supposed to drop. the idle without the plug in should be somewhere around 13-14 degrees btdc i believe.

Tps

I am trying to adj the TPS but I think that it might be messed up. That is a special order part around here therefore if I buy it (150 bucks) and that is not the problem that is a lot of money!! Does anyone have a used one that works that i could possibly buy? And the idle and timing both do not drop with the jumper in. I have the timing at 5 deg but if the tps is messed up would the stop the jumper from working properly? I am at work and have the TB soaking in some cleaner with the TPS off of it, there was a lot of crap in there. Would the tps be a part you would buy used from a board member or new. I just cant see spending that much on a "guess" I along with all my mechanic buddies are out of ideas Bill

if you put the jumper in and the timing doesent change then the tps isnt adjusted properly. you adjust is by turning it slightly until the contacts line up correctly with the throttle body.

you need to adjust the timing to 5 degrees btdc while jumped, which will go up after removing the jumper

All Clean!!!

Well I just Adj. and cleaned my TB and TPS at work. (I love my PT job!!!) It is now within specs, not sure if it was before I pulled it off but i don't think it was. All the tests of the TPS check out good. I cant wait till I get home now to check it out. It is strange to me that a tps would cause that big of an issue. If for some reason the TPS does not fix the problem any other ideas? Thanks Bill

Not really. The TPS is a critical sensor for engine management. If the computer doesn't know when the throttle is closed, it cannot properly meter fuel, set spark advance, adjust fuel enrichment upon acceleration, etc etc.

With a properly adjusted TPS, when you jump the DLC connector, the engine computer acknowledges everything by rolling the timing to 'base' settings. At this point you can set your timing properly. Once the throttle is opened, or the jumper is removed, the computer will advance your timing for better performance and emissions.

HTH.
