Help me find Overdrive Solenoid..please?
Hello,
I have a 1986 2wd truck with the 22R automatic transmission, and I am wanting to find the solenoid that allows the transmission to go into overdrive. I have already tried to locate it using autozone.com but no help there.
Also, any OTHER suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated, as my problem is. ...will not shift into overdrive. The overdrive on/off light works but it will not go into overdrive.
Thanks a bunch for any help you can give me.

Look here for more info:

You first need to identify which transmission you have.

Hi, Thanks for answering.
Honestly I dont know what transmission it has, when we bought it the transmission had been changed from one on the column to one on the floor, but it still has the overdrive button, and when you push the button the light does go on, then push again, it goes off.
If you know how to tell me what transmission it is, I would be extremely grateful, as I have googled and googled the info I have to no avail.
Here is what it says on the transmission (if I am reading it right)
Stamped on the transmission casing it says: 8961
Stamped on the transmission ID Tag it says: Series: 84kf 03208
it also says Borg Warner and what LOOKS to me like 13 AW
Thanks again for your help

I'm gonna guess and say that it's an A340F auto tranny. If you use the link I previously posted and go to the 'Automatic Transmission' section, you can choose A340F and scroll thru to see a schematic of the location of the solenoids.

Overdrive Bypass
I have an '87 Toyota pickup that had a broken overdrive solenoid. Since I couldn't find a new thermostat to allow the overdrive to turn on it didn't make sense to buy a new solenoid.
What I did was take the solenoid apart, take out the wires, spring and plunger and epoxy it back together. Now the overdrive is ALWAYS on and it seems to work find.

Most of the 85 thru 90 Toyota 4 cylinder trucks have the same transmission as the Volvo 240 has.. I installed the overdrive solenoid from the Volvo and it works just fine on my ** pickup
