Ok so I have a 1986 Toyota Truck, 22re 5 speed that I have been having some problems with. When my truck warms up it idles around 1100 and I cant figure out how to adjust it down. Also I can smell that it is running rich so I didnt know if that could be related. The other problem Im having is at initial start up I have alot of power but as it warms up I dont have power until about 3000rpm, is this common? Any advice on any of this is greatly appreciated.

have you checked to make sure that the distributor is timed right??
or make sure that all the hoses and whatnot are still connected and not cracked...

I plan to double check timing tonight. All hoses are good as I just dropped this engine in after rebuilding it and I replaced all vacuum lines. What should it be timed at?

i would check timing, TPS, cold start time switch and coolant temp sensor...
haha im going through this for the last dont even know how long, these are all things that will throw your truck out of whack haha

a good baseline timing setting it 5 BTDC with the diagnostic jumper installed.

to adjust the idle speed (and please only set it when the engine is warmed up, otherwise it will cause other problems), there is a screw to the left (when standing in front of the bumper and looking at the engine) of the duct that feeds air from the filter to the engine.

both idle speed and timing must be set with the diagnostic jumper installed, otherwise the computer will not recognize the changes and will further complicate things.

once ignition timing and idle speed are set correctly, TPS and AFM testing can be done.
If either of those require adjusting anything that affects idle speed, the timing and idle speed adjustments must be done again.

Thanks everyone I went and reset my timing and got all my power back. Also ended up redoing cap, rotor and wires because they had corrosion. Thanks again.

Ok so now I have power but my new problem is ever since I reset the timing Im running really rich. any idesa guys?

unplug the connector to cold start injector and see if the problem continues.
if that fixes it, the cold start time switch could be failing.
if not, you may have leaking injector(s), the TPS or AFM may be out of adjustment, the coolant temp sensor may be failing, your O2 may be going... many things could cause it.
Do you have any exhaust leaks?
